Warrantor Sof’Solutions™ Incorporated
Sof’Bounce™ is delivered via common carrier to the destination address (correct address and contact information must be provided on the purchase order). Trucks may be up to 70 feet in length and require a large turning radius that will limit access into some sites. If access is available, the truck may be able to pull right up to the play area to unload. The truck driver will have the final say as to where he will and will not go. It may be necessary for the truck to unload away from the play area. Pallet jacks, fork lifts, wheelbarrows, or bobcats may be needed to move the material into the play area. Each delivery must allow a 4-hour delivery window for the product to arrive. Sof’Bounce™ will deliver on standard size (4’ x 4’) pallets. Each pallet will be packaged in one of the following ways:

SUPER SACK

  • One super sack per pallet.
  • Super sacks are filled with 2,000 pounds of product.
  • Super sacks on pallet can weigh up to 2,200 pounds total.
  • When using super sacks, a pallet jack and/or forklift must be available on site.

STANDARD SACK

  • 50 Standard Sacks per pallet.
  • Standard Sacks weigh 40 pounds each.
  • One full pallet of Standard Sacks can weigh up to 2,200 pounds.
  • Once off the truck, pallets can be broken down and moved individually in standard Sacks.
If you will need to move full pallets, arrangements must be made at the site to accommodate for this (i.e. pallet jack, fork lifts).

Sof'Bounce Installation Instructions:

PLEASE NOTE: Sof'Solutions™ Inc. recommends using the services of a certified engineer or a landscape architect who is familiar with the local soil and climatic conditions to evaluate the information provided, especially as it relates to drainage. Sof'Solutions™ recommends the use of a drainage system with Sof'Bounce. However, we do not dictate how extensive your drainage system should be to be effective.

Sof'Solutions™ Inc. assumes no responsibility for determining the size of the equipment or the safety zone between the equipment and the border. Purchaser or purchaser's agent is responsible for determining fall heights and use zones, required by the Consumer Products Safety Commission's handbook for Public Playground Safety, applicable ASTM standards, manufacturer's regulations, and state and local regulations and suggestions.

CPSC and ASTM Fall Zones (according to the CPSC handbook for Public Playground Safety) A fall zone of at least 6 feet must surround all equipment with the exception of:

1. Swings. A fall zone equal to 2 times the height of the top rail is needed in front of and behind swings.

2. Slides. A fall zone equal to the height of the slide plus 4 feet, extending a minimum of 6 feet, is needed in front of slide exits.

Proper site preparation and maintenance procedures are vital to the performance of your Sof'Bounce™ playground safety surfacing; site preparation should begin with the removal of all existing material prior to the installation of your new safety surface. While material removal is recommended, Sof'Bounce™ may be placed on any surface, including existing wood mulch, gravel, soil and/or other types of surface. When using Sof'Bounce™ on concrete or asphalt a minimum or 12 inches of product with a layer of geotextile fabric and the installation of Sof'Mats under high traffic areas is required.

All sites must be compacted up to two (2) inches, when installing Sof'Bounce™ allowances in borders and equipment must be made. Compaction can occur naturally through play.

INSTALLATIONS: IN GROUND / ABOVE GROUND

  1. Excavate area to the recommended depth with a 1% - 2% grade to ensure proper drainage. The most effective drainage may be to carry all water outside of the play area (it is not recommended the Sof'Bounce™ be installed on a grade greater than 10%).
  2. All rocks, roots and vegetation need to be removed.
  3. Install retaining border if required.
  4. Install playground equipment.
  5. Install drainage if applicable. If manufactured drainage is being used see following specifications.
  6. Install geotextile fabric. Cover sub-grade with the geotextile fabric supplied. Overlap all seams a minimum of 3" and secure the fabric rings with pliers every one to two feet. It will be necessary to slit the fabric to fit around equipment's uprights. Where possible, overlap all slits with next piece of fabric.
  7. Place warning labels on uprights (see warning label installation instructions).
  8. Install Sof'Mat rubber mats underneath Sof'Bounce™ playground safety surfacing in excessive wear areas such as slide exits, under swings, and sliding poles.
  9. Install Sof'Bounce™ surfacing to proper depth, mounding in high traffic areas of the playground to allow for displacement and compaction.
  10. A bobcat or small front-end loader may be used to spread surfacing, however it will also be necessary to spread manually.
  11. Install all material delivered.
  12. Compaction: to perform to maximum capacity, Sof'Bounce will need to compact up to 2 inches. Compaction will take place naturally through play. Make sure to account for compaction in your borders and equipment (i.e. if you need 6" to fill an existing pit you will need 8" of un-compacted Sof'Bounce™).
  13. Hand rake for a level finished surface.
  14. Periodic adjustments of Sof'Bounce™ are required under slide, swings and other concentrated use zones. Installing Sof'Mat in these areas will help control displacement in these high use zones.

WARNING: Failure to maintain Sof'Bounce™ at the initial installation depth may result in injury and void your warranty.
  15. Warning Labels: Place warning labels on outside posts of equipment in various locations throughout the playground area. Labels should be placed upright, with the top of the sticker reaching the recommended height (see critical fall height chart).

Pre-Fabricated Materials

All Sof'Bounce components arrive ready to install, there is no need for onsite mixing or binding.

Add Layers To Increase Protection

Sof'Impact Foam’s thickness is specified to meet varying critical fall heights. Simply add additional layers to increase to amount of fall height protection.

ASTM F1292 Testing 6'
Background
There are two methods for determining when a fall to the surface may be life threatening. “One method holds that if the peak deceleration of the head during impact does not exceed 200 times the acceleration due to gravity (200G’s), a life-threatening head injury is not likely to occur. The second method holds that both the deceleration of the head during impact and the time duration over which the head decelerates to derive a value know as Head Injury Criteria (HIC). Head impact injuries are not believed to be life threatening if the HIC does not exceed a value of 1,000” (Playground Surfacing: Technical Information Guide, CPSC: Page 20, section 10.1, Determining Shock Absorbency of a Surfacing Material).

FLAMMABILITY TESTING

16 CFR 1500.44

Tire Chips were tested in 1995 in accordance with the Federal Hazardous Substance Act (16 CFR 1500.44) to determine whether this material would be considered “flammable” (a material is considered flammable if it ignites and burns with a self sustained flame at a rate greater than 0.1 inches per second along its major axis). The results of this test were as follows:

Burn Length (inches)  Time (seconds)  Burn Rate (inches/second)
0.5 60.0 0.01
0.1 60.0 0.001
0.4 60.0 0.01
0.4 60.0 0.01

TOXICITY TESTING
It is important to know that the material that is being used under and around playground equipment contains no toxic chemicals. A semi-volatile test was performed on our product and has been determined that Sof'Bounce™ rubber surfacing is nontoxic.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), children treated in emergency rooms for poison-related injuries were exposed to toxic substances through inhalation, ingestion, or eye or skin contact. Aspiration of even small amounts of hydrocarbon-based chemicals like gasoline, kerosene, naphtha, and tar, to name just a few, can cause asthma, pneumonia, pulmonary damage, and death. Sof'Bounce™ has been tested for over 68 different chemicals. No chemicals were detected in amounts considered dangerous to children or the environment, you can be sure Sof'Bounce is a nontoxic, safe product for your playground.
